Austria, 02 February 2017: New Year's Greetings ceremony

The Embassy of Madagascar in Germany, also accredited in Austria, represented by the Chargé d'Affaires a.i honored the invitation of the 9th Federal President, His Excellency Dr. Alexander Van Der Bellen, on the occasion of the New Year's Greetings ceremony addressed to the Diplomatic Corps, in Vienna, Bellariator der Hofburg.

The key elements of the President's speech focused on increasing the volume of cooperation between the EU and Africa at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Thus, by 2021, the budget of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) for bilateral actions will increase to 154 million Euros. Similarly, the disaster relief fund abroad has increased four-fold. The objectives of Austria as OSCE Presidency this year (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) will focus on defusing conflicts, with a view to struggle radicalization and extremism with an emphasis on youth. In addition, international cultural activities will continue to be among the pillars of Austria's foreign policy.

The mission was supported by the Honorary Consul of Madagascar in Austria, Mr Thomas Krapfenbauer.
