Press release following the attack of June 26th, 2016 at the stadium of Mahamasina
A special governement meeting was held Monday, June 27 at Mahazoarivo, following the blast occurred at 7:15 pm at the stadium Mahamasina during the concert of the Independence Day of June 26. The Government reprehends strongly this heinous attack, organized for political divergence in order to destabilize and discredit the regime.
His Excellency Mohammed Amar, in his capacity as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Madagascar and the Secretary General of the Francophonie Mrs. Michaelle Jean, condemns this ignoble and barbaric act. It is an opposition to tradition and Malagasy customs which is the "Fihavanana". The Diplomatic and Consular Corps and International Community express their solidarity and sympathy to the Malagasy people, the government and the Malagasy authorities following this tragic and unfortunate event.
The explosion left three people dead and more than ninety wounded.
First elements of the investigation, the explosion was from a bomb. Indeed, a grenade range, used to trigger the explosion in full crowd, was found between the gates of the field and the stands.
The injured were rushed to the hospital to provide first aid. The military emergency, the elements of the Red Cross and the Minister of Health Professor Mamy Lalatiana ANDRIAMANARIVO were also mobilized. Care and follow-up of the victims were fully supported by the state.
The President of the Republic Hery Rajaonarimampianina, accompanied by Prime Minister Olivier MAHAFALY and several government members were at the hospital close to the victims Sunday evening.
On June 27, a minute of silence in memory of victims of this destabilization act in Antananarivo during the National Day and the murderous attack in southern Madagascar last week was observed in the Ministry of Affairs Foreign.
