Participation of Madagascar to the energy forum in Hamburg from 04 to 05 May 2015

On the invitation of the German Economic Association for Africa (Afrika-Verein) and with the support of GIZ, the Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons Mr Horace Gatien led the delegation of Madagascar composed of the Technical Director of the ADER and the Embassy of Madagascar in Berlin, the 9th German-African Energy Forum held in Hamburg from 4 to 5 May 2015.

This high level conference honored by the Secretaries of State of the German Federal Foreign Office and the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy and the mayor of Hamburg, was attended by 14 African Ministers energy including Madagascar for the first time, about 500 participants from business and politics, including 200 Africans. The objective is to exchange experiences between energy sector stakeholders and to make contacts with German investors involved in this field.

The Malagasy Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons was one of the panelists in the discussion on "fossil energy in Africa, German technological know-how", and he also presented Madagascar during the country session. Contacts with private companies and the German financial partners were also held. During his speech, the Minister highlighted the needs in the short, medium and long term of Madagascar in the energy field. He also stressed the potential development of renewable energy resources, considered as the "priority strategic sector" of the Malagasy government
