16th January 2018 in Berlin: New Year Reception given by the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation

As usual, the FES invites all the diplomatic missions of the countries of its representation for a new-year reception. Representatives of the Embassy of Madagascar responded favorably to this honor.

In his speech, the President of the FES thanked each country for allowing them to work effectively on the ground to share the values defended by the Foundation since its creation more than 90 years ago namely: Freedom, Social Justice, Human Rights and Democracy.

Enshrining and respecting those values are even more important nowadays, especially under the circumstances of the challenging global situation, namely: the nuclear threat, conflicts, lack of freedom, management of social issues, food insecurity, and refugee problems, among others.

For Germany in particular, the President of the FES deplores the situation of refugees at the door of its borders and the dangerous rise of the Populist Party. Facing this uncomfortable situation and prejudices, he urges all Germans to endeavor to leave room for freedom and democracy. Finally, he supports with his wish the formation of a coalition government at the soonest.

It should be noted that the collaboration between the Senate, the Malagasy National Assembly and the Bundestag will be extended by 2 more years.
