Visit of the delegation led by the President of the Republic of Madagascar and his Spouse in Berlin from Wednesday 31 May to Friday 02 June 2017
Honoring the invitation of the President of the German Federal Parliament Pr Dr. Norbert Lammert at the 22nd International Prayer Gathering for Parliamentarians in Berlin, President of the Republic of Madagascar, Hery RAJAONARIMAMPIANINA and his spouse, made their first visit to Berlin-Germany from Wednesday 31 May to Friday 02 June 2017.
As part of this trip, the President of the Republic met with the Presidents of the two most important political institutions of the Federal Republic of Germany, namely Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, President of the Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and Mrs. Malu Dreyer, President of the Federal Council (Bundesrat).
The President of the Republic offered a dinner of friendship to the German Parliamentarians on the first day of his arrival.
On the sidelines of this Parliamentarians' event, which gathered around 350 participants from all over the world and where the President of the Republic made his speech, other meetings have been carried out:
At the political level, he met the members of the Parliamentary Commission for Economic Development and Cooperation, chaired by Mrs Dagmar Wöhrl, Parliamentary Secretary of State in the German Federal Ministry for Cooperation and Development BMZ Mr Thomas Silberhorn, The German-African Political Association (Deutsche Afrika Stiftung) chaired by Dr. Uschi Eid.
The economic side has been taken into consideration. On the one hand, a German-Malagasy Economic Forum was organized in collaboration with the Association for Africa of the German Economy (Afrika Verein), the Embassy and the Siemens Company. To this end, the President of the Republic had a conversation with Afrika Verein’s President Dr. Stefan Liebing. On the other hand, the President spared time to visit leading companies such as Siemens Gmbh Group's gas turbine plant in Berlin and met the CEO Mrs Sabine Dall'Omo of Siemens in South Africa, who specially traveled to Berlin for this occasion.
Related to this, the President, accompanied by executives from Malagasy companies, exchanged views between the decision-makers of German companies, mainly in the energy sector during the forum such as Gauff, Voith, Andritz, Autarsys ...
Discussions with the German Public Finance Institution KFW have not only strengthened existing cooperation, but also considered a broadening of the fields of cooperation.
Focus has also been laid on the social field. The presidential couple went to a public school in Falkensee, partner school of a Malagasy public primary school in Kianjamalaza since 2014.
This was followed by a lunch visit at the Embassy. The President could assess on the ground the work environment, and he did not fail to give his instructions and encouragement to the staff of the Embassy.
The Diaspora as well as the honorary consuls of Madagascar were not left behind because they had the opportunities to exchange with the President of the Republic on the economic development of Madagascar.
