Consular registration

Pursuant to Decree no. 61-553 October 12, 1961, the consular registration defines the attributions of the Consuls of the Madagascar Republic abroad. Among these responsibilities, the protection of malagasy citizens is important in case of events or major difficulties with local authorities. It would be easier for the Embassy to intervene concerning the interests of a national Malagasy if registered.
Another interest of a consular registration: in accordance with administrative procedures made under Malagasy law, the Consular Service may require a valid consular card for the issuance of some documents.

Files needed:

  • Application by paper addressed to the Chief of Diplomatic Mission, the Republic of Madagascar
  • Application Form
  • An evidence of Malagasy nationality (national identity card, certificate of citizenship or naturalization decree, passport in Madagascar, etc.)
  • 2 identity photos
  • Proof of address. When accommodated, you must provide in addition to the proof of address, an accommodation paper and a copy of an identity card of the person which supports you
  • Note that the last page of national passport mentioned the following recommendation "if the passport holder wants to stay abroad definitely, he will necessary have to register near to the Consulate of the Republic of Madagascar within three months after his arrival at the consular district"

Note :
The validity of the Consular card is 3 years. The renewal application must be done within the 6 months before the expiration date. Any significant change in the situation should be indicated. Any child aged 18 years old and more must register separately.
