At the invitation of the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, a Delegation from Madagascar actively participated in this prestigious Forum, which brought together ministers and high-level delegations from more than 50 countries, as well as international representatives of industry and civil society. This political platform is an essential forum for dialogue between stakeholders and decision-makers in the global energy transition, expert groups and think tanks, citizens who are passionate about debates and encourage exchanges on the global energy transition. During the two-day conference, more than 2000 guests from 100 countries participated in the BETD.
Madagascar was represented by a senior official of the Minister of Energy, Water and Hydrocarbons, accompanied by the Embassy and an official of the GIZ Antananarivo. Mr Tsiry Andriantahina gave a brief technical presentation to the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy on the challenges and opportunities for renewable energy on the Big Island on the evening of April 8th.
As part of the preparations for the Forum and putting all the work on the energy sector, the network set up, the Embassy was able to successfully organise G to B meetings on the sidelines of the Forum, taking into account the 5 strategic axes set by the Ministry in its Performance Contract.
Madagascar has taken advantage of the framework offered by this Global Forum to meet companies such as ABOWIND, SIEMENS, VOITH, MOBISOL, AUTARSYS. The Minister’s Representative reassured German companies and informed them of the readiness of the responsible Ministry to support them in penetrating the considerable renewable energy market in Madagascar, and/or to intensify the existing partnership. The objective is to quickly implement rural electrification projects and provide green solutions to urban brown-outs for the benefit of the local population, thus achieving the win-win objective of a successful sustainable partnership.
