For once in the space of a decade, the Malagasy flag has been raised in the German Federal Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation, thanks to a fact-finding visit by the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Madagascar, H.E. Christine Razanamahasoa, and a delegation composed of nine members, including independent and opposition members.
High-level meetings were held, in particular with the President of the German Bundestag, Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, with the Minister of State at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Michelle Müntefering, with the Head of the Africa Division, FES International Development Cooperation Department, Dr. Manfred Öhm, a meeting at the German Bundesrat, with the Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Georg Kleemann. In addition to this visit, a meeting with members of the diaspora also took place on Tuesday, September 10, at the FES Berlin Offices.
The programme was well-conceived, rich in high-level meetings as well as in terms of technical impregnations, without forgetting the cultural aspect of the Country of Beethoven, through a performance at the Opera.
Relations between the two countries are well established and thanks to several high-level visits in recent months, the strengthening of cooperation in the field of trade and parliamentary support will be strengthened, without excluding other areas such as the environment, energy, agribusiness, and probably later on dual vocational training in which Germany is in pole position.
